An exciting water-wise year of 2018 got off to an early start with our newly registered fledgling school, Benjamin Pine Primary School. Being a program focused of making ‘every drop count’, it was auspicious that we were blessed that day with a wonderful showering of light, deep soaking rain. Sixty eager grade 4 children crowded into the computer room to learn how to navigate this easy, learner-friendly online program. They loved watching an beautifully illustrated movie clip of how the program works and were totally inspired and rearing to go after witnessing what other schools around South Africa were doing in their community, schools and homes to take care of our most precious resource. Rich schools, poor schools, little children, big children, farm schools and town schools all taking action to save the planet we all share.
After a brief introduction, we then followed up a short water audit and generally speaking, most children had grossly underestimated how much water we actually use for all our daily activities like bathing, washing and flushing the toilet. This Christmas holiday, the children have pledged to change their families water wasting habits and calculate their water saving. Goodluck Benjamin Pine!!!
